π Make a lovely scented potpourri with cuttings from your dried-out π Christmas Tree! Or, use fresh evergreen cuttings from your yard or neighborhood to craft this thrifty potpourri. It is sure to uplift the πholiday feel in your home and makes a lovely gift when stuffed into a very simply sewn pouch for a sachet. Smells amazing!!! Stores well!!!
12 cups fir needles or clippings (add some cedar, if desired)
1 cup dried tangerine peels (orange peels are good, too)
Small pinecones (alder or fir)
Several broken cinnamon sticks
2-3 tablespoons whole cloves
2 tablespoons orris root powder (this is a fixative that helps potpourri hold its scent)
Essential oils: tangerine, cinnamon, and clove (or scents you associate with Christmas)
I used about 20–30 drops each; less of the clove oil as it is more pungent.
Toss everything together in a large glass or ceramic bowl. (Please do not use your wooden salad bowl!)
Transfer to a gallon jar, cover, and set aside to mature for 30 days in a dark, cool closet.
When mature, display Christmas Tree Potpourri in bowls around your home. Decorate the top with found items such as moss, lichen, more pinecones, leaves, etc.
Stitch up a quick fabric pouch or two for your linen closet or to give as gifts. Enjoy!
You can substitute ground cinnamon or cloves for cinnamon sticks and whole cloves.
